Saraki Awards Scholarship to 2 First Class Law Graduates, doles out N1m

The Senate President, Doctor Abubakar Bukola Saraki has awarded scholarships to 2 first class law graduates from the University of Ilorin. The two beneficiaries of the first set are Mohammed Abdullahi Tosin from Irepodun Local Government and Adam Mohammed Ndakuku from Edu Local Government area of Kwara state.

At the brief ceremony held at his Ilofa GRA residence in Ilorin, Senator Saraki said it was in fulfillment of his electioneering campaign promises to channel his pension as former Governor of Kwara state into a scholarship scheme.

"This program, the Abubakar Bukola Saraki Pension Scholarship Fund, is necessary to support the existing State Scholarship Program, as the government alone cannot effectively take care of all our people’s needs. Today, Mohammed Abdullahi Tosin from Irepodun L.G.A and Adam Mohammed Ndakuku from Edu L.G.A who both made first class in Law, particularly in a world-rated University like our own University of Ilorin, received N500,000 each to fund their law school programme.

"It is noteworthy to mention that since the commencement of payment of the pension, I have not drawn a single kobo from it, I have been waiting eagerly to decide what programme to channel it into. Thank God, the idea of the scholarship programme came up during the last election campaigns."

The Senate President expressed hope that Tosin and Adam would continue to work hard at the Nigerian Law School, and make our great state proud as they move forward.

The gesture, according to Saraki was to assist the beneficiaries fund their training at the Nigerian Law School.

Senator Saraki noted that the fund would serve as a form of social security to support existing state scholarship scheme.
